Some Quick Notes
The Muriel Awards are still going, I hope you've been following them. One results of one of the most fun categories was just revealed so you should head on over to Paul's site and check out the Best Cinematic Moments of 2008.
Here's my personal list that I submitted for the awards:
1. The Joker taking a joy ride in a stolen police car.
2. Colin Farrell karate chops the dwarf.
3. Man on Wire – The walk between the towers.
4. Emo Harold in Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay.
5. The opening sequence of Wall-E
6. The deranged penguin in Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World.
7. Brad Pitt's grin just before getting shot in Burn After Reading
8. The pigeons in bolt explaining how to get his head unstuck from between the bars.
9. Zidane sets up a goal in Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait. (The perfect combination of the beautiful game and beautiful filmmaking.)
10. Michael Pitt rewinds the movie after the audience is finally given a break in Funny Games.
I saw the latest Friday the 13th film over the weekend and found it reasonably entertaining (but by no means "good"). If you need to go see a horror movie in theaters, I would recommend My Bloody Valentine 3-D instead. If you only have access to My Bloody Valentine in 2-D it's probably still better than Jason's latest killing spree.
Whatever you decide to do, just don't see Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. It's one of the worst movies that I've watched in awhile. Amongst my many many gripes is the fact that less than a third of the movie actually takes place in New York City! The ad campaign for the movie is the only thing good about the movie and it still barely justifies the existence of this horrible horrible piece of crap.
Lastly, there's still time to sign up for the 3rd Annual White Elephant Film Blogathon. E-mail me at blim8183@gmail.com to register if you haven't already.
