A STIFF Weekend Film Challenge
Ben and Rufus' 48 Hour Film
My first short film Gas was recently accepted to the Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) and is going to be screening on June 3rd at the Seattle Art Museum. The film is also going to be playing twice in July as part of the Asian American International Film Festival here in New York.
This past weekend, the film festival in Seattle held their weekend film challenge. On Friday night they assigned participating teams a character, prop, punchline, and genre. Rufus and I participated and were assigned the following:
Prop: Cxtension cord
Line: Just impeach the fucker
Character: V. Galaconalison, fruit and vegetable specialist
Genre: Foreign Film
Now, you're probably thinking "wtf? Foreign film's not a genre." If not, you should be, because that's what we thought. As a result of our frustration, the film only loosely adhered to the rules and ended coming off as a bit of a "fuck you" to whoever it is that saddled us with "Foreign Film" as a genre.
I've uploaded it to YouTube for everyone to enjoy:

Basically, with so many teams involved we started to run out of genres, so we took a pretty loose definition. That being said, you guys did a great job. I especilly love the dialogue about whether or not Foreign is really a genre.
It is especially fun because this is primrily a Seattle contest. You guys are the first to ever participate from out of town and the luck of the draw worked out really well since the "foreign" team made the "foreign" film. The audience is really going to get a kick out of watching this mixed in with all of the Seattle shorts.
Oh.. and I really liked Gas too.
Thanks for taking part and I look forward to meeting you.

He majored in fruit? I tried that, they won't let me. I looked for any sort of food major, but you either have to go to culinary school or be a nutritionist.
Seriously. I looked into it. Seriously.
