Lucid Screening Captures, Round 1

Just a silly screen-cap guessing game...

Hello and welcome to the first installment of Lucid Screening's newest feature, called... well... it's just a silly screen-cap guessing game. I struggled to come up with a clever title, resorting to ye olde internet-anagram-computator for variations on "Lucid Screening," "Lucid Screening Captures," etc. which the infernal machine regenerated as such wince-inducing examples:

Nude Gin Circles
Scenic Nude Girl
Drug Clinic Seen
Sin Cringed Clue
Nice Dunce Girls
Crude Lens Icing
Per Trance Cues (kinda like those last two)

...and countless, even less appropriate others, finally collapsing altogether in a syllabic tangle of serifs and non-sequiturs. So I'll ixnay the cute name for the column... because, after all, writing is not my first language - pictures are... and unless better suggestions are forthcoming (please, feel free to volunteer any) this recurring attraction will simply fall under the rubric you see at the top there.

Anyway, to avoid further alienating, confusing and embarrassing Ben, Andrew and all the other fine writers here at the site, I'll wrap this up. Each week (hopefully) I'll nab a few grabs from whatever I've been watching courtesy of my job at Film Is Truth, or my personal collection (which includes discs from all regions) and even the occasional bootleg (just to make it interesting) and post them here; if no one guesses correctly after a day or more I will post an additional cap from each film, and continue thus until some smarty-pants gets it right or until the peanut gallery calcifies with boredom.

So - huzzah! - we're off to the races with the first three caps:

Film A, cap #1:

cap #2:

cap #3:

Film B, cap #1:

cap #2:

cap #3:

cap #4:

Film C, cap #1:

cap #2:

cap #3:

Okay, you're not allowed to play because you have access to my rental records at the store.

Now I have to start all over.

Wrong, wrong and wrong!

Very clever choices, though.

New caps for each film now posted.

Ben said...

Grrrr I know the first one, I just can't remember what it is!

Jeffrey said...

The first film is by a female director.

You are an evil EVIL man...

Three more caps added...

Okay, okay, I got it! The first one is 'Friday Night.' I figured that out without peeking at your rental history.

The second I figured out too... but I cheated on that one.

Still not sure about the third one.

Jeffrey said...

Yes, #1 is "Friday Night" by Claire Denis, with beautiful photography by Agnes Godard. Not her best film by far, but still lovely.

#2 is a politically noxious, awful Hollywood film from the mid-20th century starring exactly the icon you'd expect in such a flick.

#3 is an underrated film noir from the cusp of the 1990s, by an equally underrated director (though he's made his fair share of tripe).

Jeffrey said...

One more cap added for film #s 2 & 3.

The capture from #3 is the last image of the film, just before the end credits.

Jeffrey said...

Okay: ANSWERS!

#2 is Blood Alley

#3 is After Dark, My Sweet

Anyone up for another batch? Probably not.

Tyler said...

I am, despite the inevitable loss...

Ben said...

Those were hard as hell but yes!

Oh man, I can't wait for the next round. This is a fantastic idea El Jeffe!
