Snakes on a Plane
Low-Fi teaser awaits!
Since I believe more than one Lucid Screening writer has expressed to me their seemingly intense (possibly sarcastic) interest in the upcoming Samuel L. Jackson thriller Snakes on a Plane, I decided I would post a link to this teaser HERE. It's a pirated "camcorder in the theater" deal so it's pretty low quality.
The title of the film perfectly describes its premise. Essentially, Jackson has to battle a shit load of snakes on a 747. I'm not saying I'm at all put off by this concept, but maybe some of my fellow Lucid Screeners could fill me in on why I should or should not be excited about this particular title.
Also, the poster's pretty cool.

Dude. Greg. It's snakes. On a plane. What is there not to get.
Actually, I don't get it either. Seems like a whole bunch of fanboy fervor.
The real question on everyone's mind: is it too soon for a snakes on a plane movie?

I think that while I might "get it" (I'm quite "hip", you know), I still don't quite entirely understand it.
My question is this: does anyone actually think that this will be an important (one that will alter the paradigm) or a legitimately good film?

Perhaps it is another signpost on the disaster movie highway that America has been traveling since 9/11, at least according to J. Hoberman.

But I don't really know if that makes it important or legitimately good. Maybe it makes it legitimately bad.

Well, if you yr gonna make a movie around an absurd premise you might as well go all the way, right?
I still can't completely believe this movie (and its slightly hilarious eponymous title), but it actually sounds pretty entertaining...

Well, your insights are much appreciated. I'm still waiting for Ben to chime in as it was he who seemed enthusiastic. Personally, I'm picturing a lot of CG snakes and bad one liners, but we'll have to see.

Sorry! I just moved so I wasn't able to read this until now reply.
I think the appeal of Snakes on a Plane is that the premise and the title (which basically explains the entire movie) is so ridiculous that I couldn't even believe it actually existed. I thought it was a hoax at first so when I finally got a chance to see the trailer I freaked out. And it appears many other fanboys around the internet did as well. Maybe you just get it or you don't? The idea of Samuel L. Jackson battling snakes on board a plane just seems like great fun to me. Obviously it's not going to be a great film but it looks like it'll be a fun unpretentious over-the-top great bad-movie.
I get the feeling this is what most of the people on the internet are also feeling about the movie. If you just take a look at all the SOAP fanart on the net you'll probably get a clue as to what kind of people are excited about this and why.

I wonder if they will show this movie on a plane once it leaves theatres...

My guess would be no.

Maybe we should hold the first ever Lucid Screening film event and rent out a plane and screen the film while we let harmless snakes slither around the cabin.

For the full effect the plane would have to be in the air. That couldn't cost too much could it? What we need to do is organize this with a major airline and New Line Cinema. Sounds like a great cross-promotional event. Hell, we could set it up a press screening before it comes out.

Well, they did play United 93 play on JetBlue. Dead serious.

Hey, if you're going to go for the full effect, why "harmless" snakes?
